Višnjevača – Homemade Cherry Brandy

A delightful homemade cherry liqueur that encapsulates the essence of summer with the tartness of cherries and sweetness of sugar.

  • 2.2 pounds granulated white sugar
  • 2.2 pounds sour or tart cherries (preferably fresh)
  • 1116 ounces clear neutral liquor (such as vodka or grain alcohol)

Instructions

  1. Wash your cherries thoroughly and remove the stems.
  2. Combine the cherries and sugar in a large glass jar, layering them alternately.
  3. Add the clear neutral liquor until everything is submerged.
  4. Seal the jar tightly and label it with the date.
  5. Let it infuse in a cool, dark place for about 4 to 6 weeks.
  6. Strain the liqueur using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth and transfer into clean glass bottles.
  7. Serve chilled, on the rocks, or in cocktails.

Notes

For added flavor, you can rinse the cherries after straining and place them back into the bottle for decoration. Remember to enjoy responsibly!
