The Best Orange French Toast

A zesty twist on classic French toast featuring thick brioche slices soaked in a fragrant orange egg mixture, served with maple syrup and fresh fruits.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices brioche toast bread (cut into 1-inch thick slices)
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1 tsp. orange zest
  • 1 tsp. vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract)
  • ¼ cup Florida’s Natural No Pulp Orange Juice
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, for drizzling
  • Fresh fruits (berries, bananas, or citrus segments)
  • Cinnamon sugar (equal parts sugar and cinnamon)

Instructions

  1. Prep the egg mixture: In a large mixing bowl, crack the two eggs. Add the orange zest, vanilla sugar, orange juice, and heavy cream. Whisk until combined and frothy.
  2. Soak the bread: Dip brioche slices into the egg mixture, ensuring full coverage. Soak for about 30 seconds per side.
  3. Heat the pan: Melt the unsalted butter in a skillet over medium heat until bubbling.
  4. Cook the French toast: Add soaked brioche slices to the skillet, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. Serve it up: Plate the French toast, drizzle with maple syrup, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and top with fresh fruits.

Notes

For a lighter option, you can substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk. Keep the cooked French toast warm in a low oven while finishing the rest.
