Cheesy Bacon Bread

A delightful blend of crispy bacon and sharp cheddar cheese wrapped in a fluffy loaf, perfect for any gathering or cozy dinner.

  • 6 slices of thick-cut bacon
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (around 100°F / 37°C)
  • ¼ cup melted butter (or olive oil)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy, then set aside to drain and chop.
  2. Mix the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add the warm water and melted butter to the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Incorporate the chopped bacon and cheddar cheese into the dough.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  6. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl covered with a damp cloth for about 1 hour.
  7. Shape the dough into a loaf and place on a baking sheet or in a loaf pan for the second rise.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Cool on a wire rack for 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

This bread goes great with soups or can be enjoyed plain. Add herbs for extra flavor or sweeteners for a unique twist.
