Homemade Green Tomato Relish

A tangy and flavorful green tomato relish perfect for sandwiches, tacos, and grilled meats.

  • 2 cups green tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup onions, chopped
  • 1 cup bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon celery seeds

Instructions

  1. Prep the ingredients by washing and chopping the green tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers.
  2. Combine the chopped veggies in a bowl, add salt, and let sit for 30 minutes.
  3. Cook the mixture in a pot over medium heat with vinegar and sugar until it simmers.
  4. Add the mustard seeds, celery seeds, and salt, then simmer for 20-30 minutes until thickened.
  5. Test for flavor and adjust as needed with more sugar or hot sauce.
  6. Can or cool the relish; store in sterilized jars or glass containers.

Notes

Letting the relish sit overnight in the fridge intensifies the flavors.
