Easy Irish Soda Bread

A simple and comforting Irish Soda Bread recipe that doesn’t require yeast or long rising times. Perfect for brunch or as a side with stew.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl: flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Incorporate the buttermilk into the dry mixture to form a shaggy dough.
  4. Knead the dough gently on a floured surface for about 1 minute.
  5. Shape the dough into a round shape and transfer it onto a lined baking sheet. Use a knife to score a deep “X” on top.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  7. Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve with a hearty slab of butter or pair with Irish stew. This bread freezes well; simply toast slices for quick breakfast.
