Irish Soda Bread

A traditional loaf of Irish Soda Bread, perfect for slathering with butter or using in family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 ¾ cups of buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl: flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the buttermilk, making a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
  4. Shape the dough gently into a round loaf.
  5. Score the top with a deep cross using a sharp knife.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or jam. It pairs wonderfully with hearty stews.
