Candied Orange Peel

A delightful journey into making homemade Candied Orange Peel, a sweet treat that brightens any dish or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large oranges
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oranges: Wash oranges thoroughly, cut off ends, and slice into quarters. Peel the skin, removing as much white pith as possible.
  2. Slice the peels into 1/4-inch wide strips for even candying.
  3. Blanch the peels: Boil sliced peels in cold water for about 10 minutes, then drain and rinse under cold water.
  4. Make the syrup: Combine 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar, stirring until dissolved. Add the blanched peels and simmer for about an hour.
  5. Cool and dry: Transfer candied peels to a wire rack to cool and dry for at least 1 hour, optionally coating them in sugar.
  6. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

For additional flavors, try infusing your syrup with spices or substituting the sugar with honey.
