Hearty Ham & Bean Soup

A warm and comforting Ham & Bean Soup that’s perfect for chilly days, featuring a rich blend of ham, white beans, and aromatic vegetables.

  • 1 lb smoked or honey-glazed ham, diced
  • 1 can (15 oz) white beans (Cannellini or Great Northern), rinsed and drained
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients: Chop the onion, carrots, and celery into uniform pieces.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pot and cook the onion and garlic until translucent.
  3. Add the carrots and celery; cook until slightly tender.
  4. Incorporate the diced ham and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Stir in the beans (if using dried beans, make sure they are pre-soaked and cooked).
  6. Add the broth and stir while scraping any bits off the pot.
  7. Season with bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  8. Simmer the soup, covered, for about 30-45 minutes.
  9. Taste the soup and adjust seasoning as needed.
  10. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
