Spooky Ghost Cupcakes

Delightfully spooky chocolate cupcakes topped with fluffy ghostly frosting, perfect for Halloween gatherings.

  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 and 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter (softened)
  • 6 and 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 56 tablespoons whole milk
  • Chocolate chips (optional)
  • Candy eyes
  • Sprinkles or other decorations (as desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a cupcake tin with 12 liners.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients: eggs, buttermilk, hot water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract in another bowl.
  5. Combine wet and dry mixes gradually until just combined.
  6. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.
  7. Bake in the oven for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool the cupcakes in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Make the frosting by beating softened butter, then adding sifted powdered sugar, alternating with milk and vanilla.
  10. Frost the cupcakes using a piping bag to create a ghostly shape.
  11. Add candy eyes and sprinkles for decoration.

Notes

These cupcakes can be made gluten-free with a suitable flour substitute. Adjust decorations according to your Halloween theme!
