Halloween Cinnamon Rolls

Delightfully festive cinnamon rolls perfect for Halloween, adorned with sweet icing and spiced aromas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup icing or powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk with the yeast and a sprinkle of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in melted butter and the frothy yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let it rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (around 1 hour).
  5. Roll it out: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Add the filling: Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the dough. Optionally, add chocolate chips or nuts.
  7. Roll and cut: Starting from one long side, roll the dough into a log and cut into 12 even pieces. Place in a greased baking dish.
  8. Second rise: Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Bake time: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Ice and decorate: Prepare icing and drizzle over the rolls, adding food coloring if desired.
