French Apple Cake

A delightful French Apple Cake that combines crisp apples with a sweet, buttery cake, perfect for any gathering.

  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 Tbsp whole milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 medium apples (about 1 lb / 450 g, peeled, cored, sliced into thin wedges)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease an 8-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, granulated sugar, and eggs. Beat until well combined and slightly fluffy.
  5. Add the whole milk and vanilla extract to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Gradually fold in the flour mixture into the wet ingredients using a spatula.
  7. Gently fold in the thin apple slices.
  8. Transfer the batter into your prepared cake pan, smoothing the top.
  9. Place your cake in the preheated oven and bake for about 40-45 minutes.
  10. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a touch of elegance, sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy it warm or at room temperature, ideally with a hot cup of coffee or tea.
