  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (110 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar (for the pumpkin swirl)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for the pumpkin swirl)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 large egg (for the pumpkin swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your baking dish by greasing a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or lining it with parchment paper.
  3. Combine the melted butter with granulated and brown sugars until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until well combined.
  5. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder into a bowl, then gently mix this into the wet ingredients.
  6. Beat the cream cheese until creamy, then mix in pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and the egg until smooth.
  7. Pour about two-thirds of the brownie batter into the baking dish.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the pumpkin cream cheese mix on top, swirling gently with a knife.
  9. Top with the remaining brownie batter, smoothing it out.
  10. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Notes

These brownies can be served warm with a scoop of ice cream or dusted with powdered sugar.
