Cheddar Jalapeño Bread

A delightful bread combining the creamy goodness of cheddar and the spicy kick of fresh jalapeños.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 12 fresh jalapeños, diced
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water and instant yeast. Give it a stir and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Mix well.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Pour the yeast mixture and olive oil into the dry ingredients. Stir until a shaggy dough begins to form.
  4. Add the cheese and jalapeños: Fold in the shredded cheddar and diced jalapeños, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
  5. Knead the dough: Lightly flour your work surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. First rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour.
  7. Shape the loaf: Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the bread: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Cool and serve: Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
