Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large oranges
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • Additional sugar for coating (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oranges: Wash the oranges thoroughly, then cut off the ends and slice the peel into strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Blanch the peels: Place the sliced peels in a pot of salted boiling water and blanch for about 5 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  3. Make the syrup: In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water, stirring over medium heat until the sugar dissolves (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Candy the peels: Add the blanched peels to the syrup and let them simmer on low heat for 45 minutes to 1 hour until translucent.
  5. Coat with sugar: Once cooled, roll the orange peels in additional sugar if desired or dip in melted dark chocolate.
