Homemade Dutch apple pie with an all-butter crust, soft spiced apples, and a crunchy crumble topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 68 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until dough holds together; chill for 30 minutes.

  3. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  4. Roll out the chilled dough and transfer it to a pie plate.
  5. Assemble the pie: pour apple filling into the crust and prepare the crumble topping by mixing oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter. Sprinkle over apples.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes.
  7. Cool for 30 minutes before serving.
