Spooktacular Halloween Ghost Cupcakes

Fluffy cupcakes topped with striking meringue ghosts, perfect for Halloween celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Large Egg Whites (Room Temperature)
  • 1/4 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • Black Decorating Frosting
  • 1 Stick Unsalted Butter (Softened)
  • 2 Cups Confectioner’s Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk
  • Purple Gel Food Coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your cupcake tin with Halloween-themed liners.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the egg whites to the butter-sugar mixture one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Mix together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add this to your wet mixture, alternating with the milk.
  5. Distribute the batter into your lined cupcake tins, filling them about 2/3 full. Bake for 15-18 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Beat the egg whites and cream of tartar in a clean mixing bowl until foamy, gradually adding sugar until stiff peaks form.
  7. Pipe the meringue in ghostly shapes atop each cooled cupcake.
  8. Toast the meringue lightly with a kitchen torch if desired.
  9. Decorate with black decorating frosting to give the meringue ghosts eyes.

Notes

For a darker meringue, feel free to experiment with cocoa powder in your cupcake batter. Make sure to store leftover cupcakes in an airtight container.
