  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions by slicing them thinly and caramelizing in a skillet with olive oil and a pinch of salt for 20-25 minutes.
  2. Proof the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  3. Make the dough by mixing bread flour and salt, then adding yeast mixture and olive oil until sticky.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. First rise: Place in a greased bowl and let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  6. Incorporate the caramelized onions and cheese into the risen dough.
  7. Shape the dough into a loaf and let it rise for 30-45 minutes in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
