Dutch Oven Bread

A simple and rewarding recipe for baking crusty Dutch oven bread with a soft, chewy inside.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Combine 3 cups of bread flour, 2 teaspoons of yeast, and 1.5 teaspoons of salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Slowly add 1.5 cups of warm water to the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.
  4. Turn the risen dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round.
  5. Place the shaped dough seam-side down in a bowl lined with parchment paper and let it rise for 30 minutes to an hour.
  6. Preheat your Dutch oven to 450°F (230°C) for about 30 minutes.
  7. Bake the dough in the preheated Dutch oven for 30 minutes covered, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes.
  8. Cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For variations, consider adding herbs, garlic, cheese, or seeds to customize your bread.
